1. Karma. He's the bad guy, and he's been a REALLY bad guy, and sooner or later the villain needs his comeuppance. Took too long if you ask me. 2. He'd served his role in the story. First he was the tragically fallen hero. Then he was the incredibly evil, intimidating villain. After that there's nowhere for the character to go except a dramatically appropriate death or last-minute redemption (usually followed by death anyway). 3. It was this or the end of the world. Not a difficult call.

Well come on, Warcraft characters have never had long lifespans even before WoW. Look at Lothar, Doomhammer, Uther, Archimonde, and Grom Hellscream, among others. Further, most of the characters killed off in WoW have been villains, and it's the nature of the bad guy that they've gotta go sometime. Most of those deaths have been canonically credited to prominent characters (Tirion, Maeiv) for the purposes of dramatic appropriatene​ss. And death is surprisingly impermanent in Warcraft lore anyway.

Just to say, EACH of the characters (maybe not Kel'thuzad and Vash, they'd be tied in with Arthas or Illidan) deserved a full story-driven game in which they would eventually die but it would depict the battles with them and the good guys. Here the story is only a background for more raids and getting more sets and levels. Plus it downgraded WoW itself to some easy game for kiddies. Again flame me if you have the urge...

That is a thing I'll never EVER agree on. When WoW was new it was good. You got to play in your favorite fantasy world, met the characters but in the end you did not interact with the lore itself. Since BC, lore characters started to die by the hands of some nameless guys with epic armor and a certain level. Now the original lore is gone. Illidan is dead, Kael, Vash, Kel'Thuzad and now Arthas! Only to make shitty expansions to milk more money. Sum up, it's NOT good to end it this way! Flame me..

I love Warcraft lore, but I just hate it when the God characters die. Arthas gone? Why? He was probably the only character I really connected with in the entire story, not to say the other weren't epic. But Arthas was THE poster boy of WoW. He's dead.

oh noes... wanna be rollplay gamers, crying about arthas got killed, don't you know the strength of your own character? Of course Arthas or Malygos are very important in Warcraft History, but your character together with others, are strong and a kind of heros, thats real rollplay gaming
