@Mikeyalbum: yeah, I agree. I was just saying that it's pretty much physiologically impossible for me to hold a bow the "correct" way, lol. I have a similar problem playing tennis. My fingers just don't like to bend that way.

Pssssh!! Anyone can do this!! All you have to do is move the stick thing over the stringy bits... I joke of course!! This is the single most amazing recording of this piece EVER!! Like... EVER!!

@graceoverall I disagree. Only when we have mastered our bow holds can we alter them to suit our needs. You can only alter what you already know, not what you don't, in order to produce an acceptable sound!! I agree about the level of technical skill though :)

@Milky111wtf: Indeed... my fingers always want to bend inward just like his. Because of the bone structure in my hand, it feels extremely unnatural for me to hold the bow in the way commonly taught by instructors.
Well, they teach ...   (Milky111wtf)16.3.2010
Well, they teach you the basic hold. However if you actually do it right it looks like what Heifetz is doing. You'll notice all the fingers are placed just as you first learn it- the difference is that they are relaxed and not unnecessarily curved or spread out.
What really puts ...   (Milky111wtf)16.3.2010
What really puts Heifetz above the rest is his absolute bow control- it's just unheard of!

David Oistrakh was the violinist with the "Golden Tone", but for my money, Heifetz was by far the more expressive and versatile musician.
