Mikis Theodorakis, Costa Gavras - Z (1969)

The scenes of Gavras' classic film which are scored with the music of Theodorakis. (I had to leave out a couple of them to keep the video under 10 minutes.) Based on a novel of Vasilis Vasilikos, "Z" is about the assasination (1963) of Grigoris Lambrakis, a distinguished athlete, doctor and politician, as well as an active pacifist and humanitarian. The film depicts the way para-state and paramilitary mechanisms operated in Greece and the efforts of an honest investigator against them. It was the no-nonsense "business minded shop keeper " type was the mainstay of Hitler's support. You have to have ideals in politics as it's giving expression to the idelas of the people, unless you think people are essentially no more than money grubbing. A very low vision of life.
