@spacecadet35​ I think you're correct. Parkinson is an intelligent and very honest interviewer. I'm not sure Meg was quite prepared for his style. Certainly she wasn't prepared to be challenged to the degree she was.

It's called a probing interveiw. They used to do those once in the states. Now it is all just advertising a persons movies and dicussing what their cat's name is. We obviously have more interesting interviewers in this part of the world, especially on the Radio. Look up some Norman Gunston or Ali G for some real fun interviews.

I think that they're simply too different to carry out a proper conversation.​..not just in age but also in personality. Brings out the worst in both of them.

I have heard about this interview and actually have just read parky's autobiography. I expected her to be completely off hand and ignorant. Not​ so. Parky is overbearing and sexist. He tries to flirt with his female guests, but forgets he's an old man now. He's pathetic. He​ should be ashamed of himself for making this woman feel so uncomfortable​ for no reason. She obiously thinks he's a sex obsesssed, patronising pillock. She​'s right !

I have never liked Meg's movies but I must disagree. Only one of Meg's answers is a "one word" answer and the rest were quite wordy. Meg has never been a red carpet queen so it's no surprise that she doesn't find fashion "empowering".​ It's rude how Parkinson provokes her 3 times with "weary" and "bruised" and then asks another female guest to comment on her outfit. He was so condescending​.

I think Mr. Parkinson was patronizing, and Meg just schooled him in matters of intellectual discourse. If he cannot handle intellect, he should not book it. Meg was polite. She apologized to the other guests for bursting their bubble. After awhile, I can understand Meg taking a defensive position. He is there to interview and understand his guests point of view not to impose his one. Wait a minute! Was this a debate and not an interview?

Meg really isn't playing the game, as it were. Being interviewed is a two-way thing; the interviewer asks decent questions and the interviewee provides more than just one word answers. From the outset Meg is just replying with one word answers, which clearly frustrates Parky and makes him try all kinds of odd approaches to make the interview work.

Parkinson is off his game, slightly. But the whole time Meg Ryan is trying, VERY HARD to get in the last word or quick stab at Parkinson. He tries hard to make the interview a interesting incite into the person he is interviewing,​ Meg is just about as deep as a paddle pool.

How does Parkinson do anything out of the ordinary? He asks her questions about her movie and quotes that have been attributed to her. It sounds like at this point in her life, after doing lots of romantic comedies, is embracing a cynical view on love and romance. She is evasive in her answers to questions, and frequently acts as if she doesn't understand the questions themselves. The interview isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but it was definitely awkward, thanks to Meg.

This interview put me off Meg for years. When I watch it now I can't believe I saw it that way! What was wrong with Michael? He seems to provoke her and make har as ill at ease as possible and although she seems uncomfortable​ she tries very hard to give extended and truthful, meaningful answers and he seems hell bent on pretending not to understand anything she says and acting as though she is saying something ridiculous. It almost looks like bullying to me!!

this is just different interview styles, Americans are use to shameless plugging where they just talk about there new film, Parkinson doesn't just talk about that, when he does an interview he ACTUALLY interviews the person. you can see the shock on her face when he brought up her divorce. Was bad for both of them.

I agree with Big Al, she has her defenses up, but Parky does not have enough finesse to do this interview properly, and he really isn't very good in this. It is the host's job to put the guest at ease and make sure they are relaxed, not to interrogate them. He has been in the business for a long time and he should be able to adjust his style for different situations.

Meg's a slightly difficult subject and Parky just isn't up to the challenge she presents. Wilfully not acknowledging​ that there's a difference between love and romance was churlish and unprofessiona​l. Of course there's a difference. Disappointing​.

That Parkinson guy is a real sleazebag. He doesn't like the way the interview is going so he starts attacking her at the end in a very roundabout and sneaky way .He's trying to make her feel uncomfortable​ but also trying to make himself look good. You can see right through the scumbag. I think Ryan did an excellent job in deflecting all of his B.S.

taken all this time to finally watch this interview.. I honestly can't see what the big deal was about. it doesn't even seem that awkward.. just more honest, less scripted and ass kissing and shameless plugs than most other boring interviews
