It's definitly a big difference, I just think it's a shame that you should note that. Let's say an generic pop artist doesn't write his own lyrics, melody or whatever else. He/she buys song and than almost passes them off as if they are his/her own. In my eyes that doesn't make them real artists but complete and utter tools. So that's kinda why I think its a shame artists should note that they are infact artists.

i think its def important to note that you write your own songs. i wouldn't call it a genre, but its a way to define yourself as a musician. do you just sing what other people write for you? or do you write, compose, and perform? big difference in my eyes.

Liz lemon can sing?! No but seriously, you've got a great voice. In general though, I can't stand the term 'singer/songwriter', as if writing your own songs is so special(in contrast to people who buy songs) that it needs be mentioned in a genre(?). Is it even a genre?

Hopefully you at least actually had people listening and paying attention. I did scores of coffeehouse gigs -- oftentimes I was just a human juke box, or worse, an irritation to the folks who were just there to study or hook up! Of course, that kind of thing can provide some nice oppositional energy you can channel into the performance..!

There's a lot of promise here. When I was getting ready to play out, I did at least eight hours a day for a month...but that was learning 50 songs. But I'd love to see where you are 240 hours of practice from now. And another 240 to 480 hours of songwriting from now.
