H-1B increase could discourage American college graduates

High skilled jobs are at stake with the Grand Immigration Compromise currently in the senate. The bill favors corporations and not American Citizens by exploding the H-1B cap to 180,000. US Universities graduate 300,000 students per year in computer, information science, math and engineering. Yet average yearly job creation is only projected to be 120,000. There is NO American engineer shortage. The truth is that corporations want to depress wages.

I dont think H1b ...   (Mrparrot73)30.9.2009
I dont think H1b workers could possibly discourage someone from becoming a scientist or mathematician. A person does not choose to become a scientist in the same way a person chooses to become a doctor or a lawyer or an MBA. Math and science get all their recruits from people who are passionate about the subject as kids and just get sucked into it.

Bloomberg - "100,000 tons of human excrement that Indians leave each day in fields of potatoes, carrots and spinach, on banks that line rivers used for drinking and bathing and along roads jammed with scooters, trucks and pedestrians. ... India is struggling with a sanitation emergency. From the stream in Devis village to the nations holiest river, the Ganges, 75 percent of the countrys surface water is contaminated by human and agricultural waste and industrial effluent."

Here is the result of 36% of NASA "scientists" being Indian. From 1961-1998 NASA only had ONE major space failure - Challenger in 1986. Since 1998 there have been numerous disasters - Columbia, two failed Mars missions, a major Atlas failure, and now this TODAY: NASA's Global Warming Satellite Crashes Minutes After Launch The satellite launched this morning, and sadly failed just three minutes after launch, plummeting back to Earth." So much for importing the best & brightest!

Does everyone know that Apple does not employ a single software engineer in India? In fact they closed their R&D center in India in 2005. Apple's stock is around 90. Meanwhile, Sun Microsystems which won't hire Americans and employs only Indian and Chinese software developers has a stock price of around $5. MS is going down the tubes because of foreign programmers, HP is too. You decide who are the best software people in the world. It's not Indians!

Indians are master ...   (indiasucksalways)11.1.2009
Indians are master of lying, cheating, stealing, fraud, con games, boasting, and pretending they are IT experts. Name ONE Indian software company that makes anything. Any Adobes, Microsofts, Apples of India? I'm not talking about fraud fakers like Satyam who brag they are making billions al the while their CEO is committing fraud - I am talking about real software products. Name one. The silence is deafening.

I have been writing software since I was 15 (25 years). I was writing software when India hadn't even seen a keyboard. I have written 18 successful commercial software products and I have lived and worked in Silicon Valley for 16 years. I've worked at Apple, Sony, Hitachi, Novell, you name it. If there is one thing I am certain of, it's that "Indian IT" is nothing but one giant congame.

10 years of guest workers sure have been good for the U.S. economy. Bloomberg reported today: "The number of Silicon Valley jobs was down 8,200 in August from this year's high point. Unemployment hadn't rebounded to its highs of this decade after more than 100,000 jobs were lost from 2000 to 2002, and the region doesn't face Wall Street's risk of losing finance jobs." So much for Indians "helping the U.S. economy". Funny how before you got here our economy was booming.

Does anyone want to take bets on how many years it will be before Adobe goes belly up with a tandoori at the helm? Not to mention people like Anil Bhavnani and Lily Tran - who runs the Acrobat project. Just look at what they did to Sun - it's all Indians and Chinese and their stock is at SEVEN dollars. Apple's is at $170. LOL. This is the result of Tandoori and noodle-shop owners trying to do software.

The best thing as an American that you can do when you are asked to TRAIN your filthy tandoori replacement is to WALK OUT. Drop the whole project in the company's lap and just WALK. No notice, no nothing. Drop it in their laps. LET THEM FLAIL AND LET THEM FAIL. Without your training, their cheap labor is actually a LOSS to them. Make them laying you off COST them money and this will stop REAL quick.

I know exactly what you are talking about. When I was working for Oracle, I would occasionally fly to their headquarters in Redwood Shores, California and stay at a nearby motel. BTW for those among you who are political, note that Hillary Clinton is a big supporter of these visas, she's aiming an arrow right at your economic hearts. This H1B policy is a suicidally stupid idea for the US economy. We have something like that in the UK, it's ruining us. I work in tech (not an H1B), I can tell you there's no US tech worker shortage, it's just that tech companies want cheap labour, and to be able to underpay and fire US-trained workers. I see how hard the Americans work, makes me sick to see.
