This video is dedicated to all those who fought for our freedom on D-Day. † All those who were killed Rest in Peace, what you did for the freedom of your countries shall never be forgot † The Normandy Landings were the first operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Neptune and Operation Overlord, during World War II. The landings commenced on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), beginning at 6:30 British Double Summer Time (H-Hour). In planning, D-Day was the term used for the day of actual landing, which was dependent on final approval. The assault was conducted in two phases: an air assault landing of American, British and Canadian airborne troops shortly after midnight, and an amphibious landing of Allied infantry and armoured divisions on the coast of France commencing at 6:30. The invasion required the transport of soldiers and materiel from the United Kingdom by troop carrying aircraft and ships, the assault landings, air support, naval interdiction of the English Channel and naval fire-support. There were also subsidiary 'attacks' mounted under the codenames Operation Glimmer and Operation Taxable to distract the Kriegsmarine and the German army from the real landing areas. The operation was the largest single-day amphibious invasion of all time, with 160,000 troops landing on June 6, 1944. 195,700 Allied naval and merchant navy personnel in over 5,000 ships were involved. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. The Allies had previously invaded mainland Europe September 3, 1943 with the landings in Italy. BaranovV, If we had decided to attack the USSR after WWII with nukes then that would have been the end since the USSR did not have a nuke bomb until 1949, however we would not do that to an ally and using the 2 A-bombs on Japan was enough, and hopefully they will not be used by anyone again. Perhaps a better alternative would have been to blockade Japan & starve it into submission, I don't know, but what was done was done, and we swore to never use atomic weapons again, although it has come close to that during the Cold War with the USSR. If we had wanted to we could have nuked the Soviets after WWII when they didn't have the A-bomb, & then eastern Europe wouldn't have been subjected to Stalin's control, but we decided another war with a former ally would be no good.

China wasn't for raping Nanking and the US wasn't for Hiroshima/Nag​askai? It was the Japanese that raped and plundered Nanjing, China. USA & Allies were going to invade japan, Japan was not going to surrender, even after the Soviet offensive in Manchuria in 1945. Losses in the invasion would have been at least ~3 or more million Japanese. So, we dropped the 2 A-bombs. Japanese killed at least 12-million Chinese, over 1-million Filipinos, Vietnamese, Burmese, etc.
