This is my inexpert opinion, but I thought the Combine was the political entity created by the alien invasion, which constitutes aliens, technology, overwatch, and even civil protection. The Combine Advisors (slugs) are supposedly the corporeal manifestation​ of the Combine original race in this dimension.

yea it makes sence since the main race have never been sceen and they have inslaved many races and the humans are one of them. its most likely half life 2 ep 3 will either be alot longer or they will make it into half life 3 or they will make it a regular ep length and make a half life 3 but i do know there upgrading the source engine (basically making a new engine which the graphics are always years ahead of the times)

What is Mike talking about?The Combine is a sweet name!it means to mix together,and the force of the combine is one of a bunch of conquered alien forces COMBINED.Or it could mean that bigass farming thing made of a buch of huge blades that spin around in a whirlwind of death!if you see a combine harvester driving down towards you, you either run away screaming or are made into a nice thick creamy BLOOD FRAPACHINO! a giant harvesting death machine that is made up of a bunch of things:the Combine.

The real combine are the flying slug things you see in episode 2 of HL2. All the soldiers/metr​ocops are just humans that have been modified to serve the combine. Striders, Vortigaunts (before Gordan Freeman killed the Nihalanth and freed them) and even headcrabs to an extent have been used to conquer planets in the real combine's stead. The soldiers/metr​ocops are no more combine than the striders are.

This is for some people. Civil​ protection are humans that have been "speccialy choosen" to help out. Combine are aliens that took over the earth in a 7 hour war and destoryed more than 70% of the population they also brought with them superior tech that some rebels stole and used to their own advantages.
