| and at the time that he said them, china was actually committing murder in the millions. at hte time he said them, the what actually existed at the time was different than what he claimed he was also wrong when he grossly underestimated the millions murdered by pol pot. sometimes the 'atrocities' (his favorite word) committed by america's "enemies" are actually accurately cited in the mainstream press | |

| Oh, to see a conversation even remotely like this one on any TV program today... | |

| I don't think he's necessarily lost, I just don't think he has all his facts down, and as a result I don't think he's fully confident in his point of view. At least in this discussion. You can see Chomsky fact-checking him several times. | |

| I come from the Southern U.S., where the term "highly intelligent" is generally used euphemistically to mean "rather smart considering his obvious mental shortcomings, so I, too, would rate WB as "highly intelligent," euphemistically speaking. Frankly, I don't think he can follow a thing Chomskey says, as he tries to qualify in real time each part of a statement he is making. Buckley tries to hide behind a veil of terms like "a priori," etc.; but really, isn't he just plain lost? | |

| Buckley's response to that girl in the audience is so goddamn creepy. What the hell is going on with his face? What an ass. Chomsky's remarks about Maoist China are correct for the time--there were real democratizing effects of the revolution going on. Of course, we know what later became of those. | |

| Buckley was a jackass, but this is still at least of higher intellectual quality than the pathetic "discussion" programs on TV today like Hannity & Colmes or O'Reilly. | |

| Is that Jeff Greenfield asking the question at about 7:00? | |

| afraid-great man that chomsky- he got china completely wrong.tens of millions WERE killed in purges, enforced starvation and that china was a thoroughly un-democratic nation, run through fear, repression and mass murder.Anyone interested in this period should read "Mao:the unknown story" by jung chang and jon halliday. | |

| Buckley is so patronising to her. | |

| Why does he keep doing that shit with his eyes. Is he trying to intimidate them with his eyes because his words are pathetically weak? | |
