I enjoy the "sci-fi" aspect which brings into play the social & culture clash, and how Leo quckly manages to get along with his 21st century counterparts - without sacrificing his 19th century integrity. I wish the filmmakers had taken the time to look this up. It's pretty common knowledge. The only Roebling present at the bridge dedication was Washington's wife, Emily. If it wasn't for her, translating engineer drawings and serving as her husbands eyes and ears on the construction site, the bridge would have never been finished.

Er, John Robeling (the German Immigrant who designed the bridge as well as many others) was long dead by the time the bridge opened. He was, in fact, killed by infection due to an injury at the construction site. His son, Washington, finished the bridge -- from his bed. He was injured during the bridge's caisson construction and bedridden for the rest of his life. Washington was was born in Pennsylvania so I doubt he had a strong accent.

haha, yes, Roebling was German. I guess it wouldn't have been very authentic if the actor portrayed him speaking English with an American accent :-)
