100% Gold Star Expert Vocals performance on The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars, as it appears in Rock Band 2 for PlayStation 3. As is customary with my videos, the original vocals by Jared Leto are minimized so most of what you're hearing is me. I'm not really a big fan of this song, or of 30STM in general, but I decided to play some songs with tricky talkies last night and thought this would be a good test subject. The "this is who I really am" talky at the end of the bridge was totally broken in Rock Band 1; it's now quite hittable with just a little bit of strong whispering as I'm doing here. I actually did three different versions of this video - one completely in the same pitches as the original using heavy falsetto, one completely downshifted by one octave, and then this version, which is a hybrid with everything but the intro phrases, outtro phrases, and the bridge shifted down. I settled on this one because not only did it sound the best, but it's probably the most useful to someone who's having problems singing it because of the huge octave jumps.

I sing very close to the mic - my lips are almost touching it. I play with 60-90% sensitivity based on the song, and I use a Logitech Vantage microphone, which has somewhat cleaner pickup on low pitches than the stock RB mic. Overall​ though, it just takes good pitch control to sing low notes - just as singing at the top of your range takes practice, singing at the bottom takes practice. Plus I have a very low singing range to begin with so singing low is easier for me.

On Xbox 360, buy it from the Xbox Live Marketplace for 200 MSP. On PS3, buy it from the PlayStation Store for $1.99. On Wii, buy it from the Wii Shop channel for 200 Wii Points. On all 3 systems you can find it via the in-game Music Store. On PS2, you're out of luck, as it has RB2 for PS2 has no online access. Upgrade to a PS3.
